Brushless DC Motors are widespread throughout mechatronic systems due to their high efficiency and low maintenance requirements. Even so, the increase of temperatures due to the flow of electricity through the windings represents a source of performance reduction, being also responsible for the unpredictable failure of drives. To overcome such issues, numerical simulations are deployed to capture the thermal gradients, considering working conditions. The present paper proposes a 2D approach for the modeling and simulation of brushless DC motors by applying simplifying heat transfer assumptions. Finite element modeling is carried out by using ANSYS Workbench interface, while the input data is processed using Microsoft Excel. A practical example is provided for a drone application.
