Because of the necessity for physical object sorting, single-stream recycling is currently an exceedingly labor-intensive operation. Soft robotics provides compliant robots which, in a congested environment, use less computing to plan pathways and grab things. Most soft robots, however, are not tough enough to handle the various sharp items found in a recycling center.
