The aim of this research is to empower and educate the public about the importance of recycling, providing effective means for selective waste collection with minimal user effort. The paper proposes a large scale deployment of a press system for recyclable containers, equipped with an selective collection function in order to reduce their volume, thus facilitating the recycling process. The chosen solution has gone through multiple design phases, while having continuous improvements made on the basis of performed analizes and performance criteria, eventually ending up with the building and testing of a functional prototype. The testing values will be used to enhance performances, rethink the design of the device in oder to ease up the manufacturing process, lower the cost of raw material and machinings, optimize user interaction. The final goal is to develop a product that has a long term beneficial impact in recycling.
