The chosen theme refers to the realization of a product designed by traditional manufacturing (injection in the mold) and rapid prototyping, so the cost analysis of the two manufacturing methods will be performed. To determine the costs a general economic model will be developed, taking into account the batch of 1000 pieces. The generation of 3D printing will simulate two situations: one in which the analyzed part is filled with 20% material and the other in which the filling is 100%. In the present paper by studying the costs of manufacturing with FDM technology compared to injection molding, the difference between the costs of the two technologies was observed, 3D printing allowing to vary the filling gradient. Depending on the functional role of the part, a reduction of costs was obtained, without modifying the functional or structural role of the part.
