In today's industries and day to day activities, different actions usually performed by humans are in the past, these activities being performed by robots on different intelligence levels, ranging from robotic arms to entire production lines that do not need any human interaction to make a finished product. All of this is possible thanks to algorithms and softwares that can manipulate data, and more important, different types of sensors that can measure and accumulate the desired data at high precision. An example of such a sensor is the LIDAR, a sensor that can measure the distance to the things around it using different light sources and receivers. A very common use of this type of sensors is found in the development of AGVs, autonomous vehicles used in factories and deposits that can maximize productivity and shorten the time for different processes. In this paper, we will cover some important aspects of LIDAR and its use in technologic fields.
