The paper presents general information and the state of the art regarding the use of structural optimization in the product design process. A structural optimization case study for a component of the structure of a robotic gripper is performed. The steps followed for this case study were: making the simplified 3D model with the help of Autodesk Inventor software, topological analysis with the help of Fusion 360 software, shape optimization according to software recommendations, modification of the initial model and realization of component's final model.
