An overhead valve (OHV) engine is a piston engine whose valves are in the cylinder head above the combustion chamber. This contrasts with earlier flathead engines, where the valves were located below the combustion chamber in the engine block - [1]. The camshaft (1) is driven by the crankshaft of the motor and acts on the dowels (2). By using the push rods (3) the cam profile pushes the rockers (4) that open the valves (6). The valves are held in place by the coil springs (5) (Fig.1). The dowel is the part that is driven directly by the camshaft. Hydraulic cleats are used to reduce operating noise and to compensate for thermal play – [2].
