Internet of Things is defined by the International Telecommunication Union as a global infrastructure for specialized companies. It allows the usage of advanced services through physical and virtual connections, based on new and up-to-date communication and informatics technologies. They also define the difference between what is a thing and a device. When speaking about a device it is said it should be capable to communicate with other devices and should ensure at least one of the following: detection, acquisition, control or data processing. On the other hand, the thing is an object, virtual or physical, which can be connected to the Internet and can communicate with another. The present paper presents some basic aspects related to Internet of Things, which will highlight its role in our day to day life, and also prove the importance of its applications in modern society.
